TOT's internal system captures the start and stop times for each production process
This can be visually represented as per below.
Whilst useful, this level of information doesn't capture the full picture.
For example, it doesn't tell you
· How long it took to set up the job on the machine
· Who checked the set up and signed it off as checked?
· How long the production run takes
If we think about it a bit more, each production process has two “phases”
a setup /checking phase
and a production run phase.
The setup phase is always first, and once completed, the production phase immediately starts.
In other words, production phase cannot begin unless the setup/checking
phase has finished – the two are linked.
Visually we can think of each production line as looking like the following:
-
Simple –so TOT can record highly accurate data for each production process: -
How long does setup/checking take on average by machine / number of colours / quantities of items /shift / operator etc.
Same for production runs
To capture the person responsible for the checking procedure on the process line.
By building up an accurate library of this information and benchmarks,
TOT can make more meaningful decisions with this information
Measure our performance over time periods
Improve the accuracy of scheduling customer orders
Better use our machine capacity
Better ability to plan.
Use this objective data in the appraisal process to gauge how individuals measure against benchmarks.
