This section covers the correct procedures involved in the recycling or disposal of all waste.
Cardboard is the only waste type permitted for disposal in this compactor, and only broken, unusable boxes are to be disposed of.
The compactor is comprised of two hoppers, which can both be used for the compaction of cardboard.
Note: Hands must be kept clear of all moving parts at all times
The correct operating instructions are as follows:
Cardboard must be suitable folded in a manner which will fit into the hopper
Cardboard levels must not exceed the maximum limit, which is indicated on the inside uppermost level of the hopper
Roll the compression head until the press position light is on and stays lit. The compression head can either turn clockwise or anti-clockwise, depending on the position of the current hopper in use.
In order to operate the compactor, you must only press the “CYCLE” button. You must not press the “UP” or “DOWN” buttons, as this will cause damage to the piston of the machine.
NOTE: IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY, YOU MUST PRESS THE EMERGENCY STOP BUTTON IMMEDIATELY
In the event where the cardboard has reached the maximum level, and it is not possible to compact the cardboard further, you must not overload the compactor, as to do so would cause damage to the machine.
In the event of both hoppers being full, cardboard must be placed in the designated storage area by the machine.
This compactor is for the disposal of general rubbish only. It must not be used for the disposal of any other types of waste, such as metals, wood, plastic containers, aerosols, fluorescent light bulbs etc.
These waste types are disposed of in a suitable manner, which is explained elsewhere in this document.

The correct operating instructions for the general rubbish compactor are as follows:
Pull down the door using the handle on the right hand side
Drop the general rubbish, preferably in a black refuse bag, into the machine
Close the door of the machine
Only turn the machine on when it has been filled with rubbish to the maximum level, which is indicated by the “Max” mark on the machine
Press Run
NOTE: IN CASE OF AN EMERGENCY, YOU MUST PRESS THE EMERGENCY STOP BUTTON IMMEDIATELY
It is not necessary to empty the compactor when it is full. This is the responsibility of our inhouse cleaners, and is carried out on a regular basis.
Good housekeeping does not only include cleanliness, but also keeping work areas neat and orderly
As a rule, all areas must be kept clean and tidy, with aisle ways being kept free from obstruction or trip hazards.
Waste material, e.g. paper, cardboard, and any other fire hazards, must be disposed of in the correct manner
Poor housekeeping can contribute to accidents; therefore effective housekeeping must be an ongoing operation.
